Where we’ve been staying

Paul mentioned that I hadn’t included much/any detail on where we’ve been staying.  So here’s a summary so far;

Manly – Eagle’s Nest – Private owned 2 bed apartment on the 7th floor, overlooking the harbour with views all around. Very nice & over budget!  The girls shared the twin room, we locked all the windows as we were terrified of one of them climbing & falling from the 7th floor.

Sydney – Bayview Boulevard – if I owned a hotel in Sydney that had spectacular views of Sydney harbour and it wasn’t full, I would upgrade people in the “city view rooms” to a bay view room so they’d tell their friends nice things about them. As it is, it was a nothing hotel, bland, the same as many, many others.  We had a family room.

Cairns – Bellview – billed as a budget motel/hostel.  We had a family motel room with an en suite.  We had a fridge in our room and access to a shared kitchen.  The beds were really comfortable but quite high and a tiled floor. Holly moves about a lot so I shared the double with her (she loves to reach out/put her feet on you/touch you/sleep on your leg so you think you’re an amputee when you wake up).  The inner wall of the room (to the corridor) was half louvered panels, half glass with curtains.  It was clean and tidy, and had air con. The staff were incredibly friendly & helpful.

Kuranda – Kuranda Rainforest Accommodation Park – 2km out of the village, in the middle of nowhere – caravan park with cabins & units.  Fantastic for wildlife spotting & star gazing. Unit was all in one room open plan with a separate bathroom, kitchen facilities. The girls shared the single bottom bunk.

Clifton Beach – Clifton Palms - very nice 2 bed apartment with great kitchen, nice finishing with good furniture, fantastic barbeque area by the pool.  Minutes walk from the beach.

Port Douglas – The Lychee Tree – 2 bedroom apartment with spacious lounge and comfotable furniture. Well equipped kitchen and the added bonus of a washing machine & dryer. Pool was fab for the kids.

Cape Tribulation – Cape Trib Beach House - 1 bedroom in a cabin with en-suite. Fantastic location. Shared kitchen facilities, close to beach.

Cape Tribulation – Cape Tribulation Resort and Spa – very plush cabin in the rainforest, more spacious than the beach house with a sitting area, en-suite.

Cairns – Coconut Beach Resort (BIG4) – a bit like a haven site, in a cabin that isn’t that nice, all one room. The worse cooker I’ve ever seen.

Townsville – Palms resort – we couldn’t find anything else we could afford, arriving late on a Sunday afternoon. We did get this good 2 bed townhouse a bit over budget. It was a nice place.

Airlie Beach – Reefside Apartment - possibly best place we’ve stayed so far. Nice and spacious, stunning views.
